Apple does not support USB drives attached the iPad, however if you want to jailbreak your iPad, then you can download with cydia the file app and you are ready to attach external USB drives. You can even move videos and photos on your iPad, however your iTunes on the iPad will not be able to play the music.
DetroitBORG made it happen.
This is what you need to do: 1. A jailbroken iPad
2. The iFile app from cydia
3. Apple's CCK
4. A USB flash drive
5. The iFile app is just like finder on a mac... it allows you to view, edit, and save files to the filesystem under root (admin for all you wintards) Hook up your drive to the CCK and it will automount itself. You can then transfer and view files on your flash drive.
DetroidBORG has one of the best video blogs around iPad and you should not miss his vblog.

I have worked on computers since 1982 almost every day. I had my first internet connection in the early ’90s. Since 1994 I am more or less in online marketing. I tweet, I bing, I facebook, I wrote books. But I never ever wrote my own blog. I never thought I needed to, but too many people are telling me I should share my thoughts with others. By the way, you might think my English is weird. You are right; I am originally from Germany. Please excuse any uncommon grammar or unorthodox spelling.
