Europe and XXX sites are ahead of American websites

As an iPad and iPhone user I am limited to surf the Internet without flash. Which seems to be no problem if I surf German websites all major websites like bild.de and spiegel.de are working perfect on non flash devices. Even the big retailers like schwab.de or tchibo.de are interactive but no flash when you use an iPad. It is just wonderful how fast they did adapt html5. Even webpages which were done mostly in flash got a new face as soon the iPad came out. Different here in the USA. There are actually so few iPad ready websites that Apple can list them on their site http://www.apple.com/ipad/ready-for-ipad/.
However the XXX industry here in the US did adapt the non flash devices as fast or even faster as the European websites. Youporn.com (just to name one) is completely optimized for iPad and iphone and android. These pages have tons of video and no flash is needed with their mobile version.

I am wondering why many companies have problems to change their sites to non flash versions. And i think the issue is (in America) we like to have fancy blinking and moving items on web sites. The easiest way to build this is to use flash. To build something similar without flash would take more time. Europeans (especially Germans) want to have a clean look and not too much fancy things going on. We want information and this fast. Therefore is much less usage of flash from the beginning.
Even if in Germany the average home Internet speed is higher than in the US, the average kilobyte size of a page in Germany is 50% lower than here in the US.
If we look deeper in this, we see an interesting pattern. It seems that in America a designer is doing graphics, html, css, javascript and flash at the same time. Therefore a designer must be a multi-talent. Must know everything about Photoshop, flash, freehand, css, javascript etc.
On the other hand in Germany, the designers have much more different roles. First of all, coding and design is extremely separated. Second designers are only doing a few things but these in perfection. One person could be only there to optimize image size. Another person does only retouching. This sounds like German companies would need more employees, however the opposite is the truth. By letting people do only a fraction of the whole picture but in perfection, they can produce much more in shorter time.
Then another interesting aspect is, that most of the content management systems and e-commerce solutions are coming from the US and are in use in the US but the implementation in Germany is done in a more depth. A lot of American companies are using only between 15 and 35% of the functions of such systems, with the argument that their business is so unique that they can not use everything in the system and have to build their own customization.
German companies do as well think they are unique, however they are easier in adapting technology if it optimize their business or if it saves production money. A German thinking is, that if they invest in technology, then they should better use it, otherwise it is a waste of money. In other words the so much loved ROI is taken serious. As a result the usage of CMS or e-commerce functions is between 35 and 67%.
The higher usage of automation allows companies easier to switch to new technologies.
I live now 6 years in the US and i am every day amazed what new and cool things are coming on the market from Americans and American companies. Not only hardware or software but technologies and executions. You will find here in America the coolest websites, but other countries are much faster in adopting such new things in a big scale.
America don't be just innovative but progressive.
